The ECx Manager is a turnkey system designed to tightly connect your engineering design changes to what you are actually building on the shop floor.

ECx Manager allows engineering designers to create and modify ECRs/ECOs/ECNs from within their design software of choice, while they are actually making the changes.

The Engineering Change process is another critical information flow process that is often neglected and often just a paper system or a completely separate database. Change Requests, Notices, and Orders, like most information, are most valuable and most time saving when they are freely and easily accessible. QBuild’s ECx Manager ties all the Engineering, Manufacturing, ERP loose ends together in one coherent system.

Specifications

The ECx Manager simplifies engineering changes and combines database information from your ERP system with AutoCAD/SOLIDWORKS data with your Engineering change information for a complete interface, providing all your ECR/ECO/ECN needs. Interfacing to MAX, Infor SyteLine/VISUAL Epicor Vista/Vantage, Microsoft Dynamics Navision/AX, Encompix and Made2Manage databases have already been completed. The specification below has been written for SyteLine but applies to all ERPs. Contact us today about other ERP systems.

Overview
ECx Manager Logo - QBuild Software CAD ERP Integration

QBuild’s ECx Manager will automate, simplify and integrate your Engineering Change process with your ERP system to eliminate duplicate data entry and seamlessly integrate your CAD ERP link.

Key Features
  • Change Request information logged and tied to resulting ECN process
  • Complete Database shows full ECN and optionally ECR history
  • Designer window runs natively within CAD system (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Pro-E)
  • Change system includes ERP purchase order, work order and inventory information
  • ECx Manager form allows the engineering manager to control ECN approvals and release to purchasing and manufacturing
  • Automatic Distribution keeps the right parties informed

Product Functionality

The Manager is two applications: CADLink ECx Manager and ECx Manager Standalone.

CADLink ECx Manager

The CADLink ECx Manager is an integral component of the CADLink Designer program. It is the beginning point of the ECN and contains important critical data for the designer to complete and view such as ECN description, reason, Action List, Distribution List and Parts Disposition Recommendations. The application will pull the information that exists from your ERP to give the designer real time data for production orders and inventory counts. The CADLink component can optionally require an ECN for any saves to the Database, ensuring your data and your drawings are identical.

The ECN tab will allow the designer to select ECN description, reason, Action List, Distribution List and Parts Disposition Recommendations, etc. Pressing save will initiate the ECN process and send the ECN to the next person on the action path (typically engineering manager or designate).

ECx Manager Standalone

The ECx Manager Standalone program is used by the engineering manager and others to move the ECN towards final approval and release.

Each individual with the ECx Manager Standalone version is optionally able to add to or modify the Action Path and distribution list for the ECN as well as simply accept or reject the ECN. Stakeholders may have to indicate a task has been completed before it proceeds down the workflow to the next person for approval.

Pressing done will update the ECN and send the ECN to the next person. An email interface will send the final ECN documentation to everyone on the distribution list once the ECN has finally been approved.

BENEFITS

ECx Manager simplifies engineering changes and combines database information from your ERP system and your AutoCAD/SolidWorks data with Engineering change information for a complete interface, providing all your ECR/ECO/ECN needs. Interfacing to Aptean ERP (Made2Manage, Encompix, Intuitive), MAX ERP, Infor SyteLine/Visual Manufacturing, Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle (JD Edwards) and Epicor (Kinetic, Vista, Vantange) databases have already been completed.

*The term ECN is used below for convenience and benefits mentioned may also apply for ECRs and ECOs.

Approval/Action Path is followed and Required Tasks Completed

One of the most important benefits of QBuild’s ECx Manager is its flexible Approval Path component. The designer can determine and the engineering manager can modify the path of critical stakeholders who need to approve the ECN.

Eliminate Engineering ERP Clerical Work

With the ECx Manager your engineering team can focus on what they do best: Engineering. Double and triple data entries, photocopying and physical ECN delivery are eliminated and engineering information is entered into an ECN database from your CAD package in one simplified interface. This frees up engineering staff and reduces your engineering costs.

Reduce Data Entry Errors

By unifying the data entry process, the ECx Manager eliminates sources of error in your ECN system. Any BOM changes are automatically documented, eliminating a source of error. Further designers see the list of open orders and inventory quantities as they are making the changes to the drawing. This allows engineering to give disposition recommendations to production leading to fewer parts that are scrapped or shipped late

Improve ECN Archiving and Accessibility

ECx Manager liberates your ECN process from paper or patched together database systems. All data is accessible from a single interface from ECN details to old drawing data to who signed off and when. A searchable index of ECNs means no more lost or destroyed ECNs. A database of old drawings means you can look back to previous revisions for reference or to ensure you don’t undo the last ECN!

Improve Distribution

The ECx manager makes it easy to send complete ECN documentation to all the people who can benefit from it. Manual ECNs are very time consuming to either circulate or make copies of to send to all the people who should see it. The ECx Manager will free the information allowing all the relevant people to get the ECN information in a timely manner. Timely ECN distribution with the ECx manager results in fewer mistakes and eliminates the administrative hassle of copying and physically moving the ECNs.

Further, ECx Manager can assign tasks in the ERP to make sure that actions are taken based on the dispositioning set in a completed ECN. Accurate approval and actions reduce time spent on ECNs and improve productivity as changes are made before parts become scrap.
